Redcoat FC Crowned ‘BFA Power League & Cup Champions’ 2013-14

Redcoat Football Club was crowned champions of Bangladesh Football Association (BFA)
5 a-side Power League & Cup. The winners of the league were decided on the final week of the league with Redcoat FC needing a win against Office Boys to clinch the title. The second placed team BYM pushed Redcoat FC all the way to the last game. The league was run over 14 weeks with two weeks of cup competition (to commence in coming weeks), with 8 teams competing for both competitions. They also clinched the cup by beating Wapping Youth on penalties.

Project Co-ordinator Ayas Ali said:
“It’s a very unique and exciting project that BFA is delivering with the support of Sport England. The main idea of this project is to get young people who are aged 16-25 who have stopped playing for whatever reasons and to get them to start playing again.  Once they are engaged to help them continue by giving them information about teams they can play for and leagues they can enter.”

Each team is put together by youth workers from various youth centres and groups of friends who come together to play after a long time. Participating teams came from all over Tower Hamlets to compete in the BFA Power League.  Redcoat FC was formed by group of friends from Stepney Way.

Marjan Ali, a Redcoat FC player said:
“I really enjoyed every minute of this power league and winning it for the first time is an added bonus. I am very happy for my friends and we are looking forward to the next power league. The power league has given me and my friends the opportunity to play organised, structured football and we are also looking to recruit more players and hopefully join BFA summer league this year”.

Around 96 people registered to participate in the power league competition with the games taking place every Tuesday evenings from 8pm to 10pm at the Docklands Power League Centre located in Crossharbour. The competition had an average attendance of 70 participants each week.

BFA (UK) is launching a new second instalment of Power League starting 11th February 2014. The power league will take place every Tuesday evenings from 8pm-10pm. To register please get in contact with Ayas Ali on 020 7392 2126 or email: bfauk@btconnect.com
